Networking at the Ball Park

Have you ever spent a day “in the office” while you were actually somewhere else? Modern technologies make it simple for someone to receive their email through a mobile device or to get a “Push” notification that some sort of message was received as well. Most can also send out message through a mobile device and even post comments to social networking pages too. Interestingly, many people believe that such options are the farthest limits that technology can currently take them, but the 4G services can actually make a massive menu of complex functions available.

For example, let’s say that you have some tickets for a weeknight baseball game but you also need to communicate with a few co-workers or colleagues on some sort of project. Emailing one another through various mobile devices would be no problem, but what if they needed to see a few files and have a document or two quickly updated? Is it worth blowing off the game and losing out on the money you spent on the tickets? If it is your job then you might not have a choice, but with 4G Internet you could grab your laptop or netbook and head out to the game.

When someone has access to 4G WiMAX service it is the same as sitting at their home or office computer. This means that someone could sit in the ball park and easily work on files, receive and transfer data, and remain in constant contact with the client or boss. They could perform all of the same functions that they could through a traditional “land line” or Broadband network, and at the exact same speeds too. Additionally, security of the data and all of the exchanges is a sure thing too because the wireless Internet services use the most powerful security protocols available.

How is it possible? Unlike the 3G or third generation networks, the 4G networks incorporate the WiMAX technologies that make wireless Internet the equivalent of traditional Internet service. It uses specialized towers that can cover areas as expansive as ten miles in radius. This is the reason that the fourth generation providers often say that they turn entire cities into wireless “hot spots”. You could ride the bus or subway and still stream video or surf the web. You could sit in that ball park and conduct a video conference while working on a spreadsheet or database. You can even send out files of all kinds – exactly as you would if you were using a traditional Internet service.

All that is required is a wireless modem that is the size of a large thumb drive. The better 4G providers even make special safety adapters available that prevent any damage to the necessary USB port should the modem be pulled sharply (this is unique in the world of USB devices). An initial installation of a single driver is all that is required to access the plug and play capabilities of the modem, and the network can then be accessed from any area of coverage, including baseball games and offices alike!
